Tattenhall Runners put in miles for races

Wales proved good running ground for Natalie and Simon Duckett, on the 25th of August ran the Ras Ti Chopa Eifl fell race. Based on the Llyn Peninsula running over three peaks the race has not been run since the 90’s and revived by local runner Huw Williams. 16 juniors ran the kids race with Natalie coming second in under nines and 47 seniors ran with Simon placing 10th.

On the 2nd of September Simon Duckett completed the Ring of Fire ultra-marathon in 28 hours, 22 mins and 29 seconds coming 5th overall. This is a 135mile ultra marathon run over three consecutive days around the Anglesey coastal path. An epic and challenging foot race set with the Snowdonia mountain range as its back drop takes in the incredible scenery and beaches of Anglesey. Simon would like to thank his wife, two children for their amazing that helped to carry him round.

Kate Lightfoot and Julian D’Enrico headed to Penmaenmawr for the Gladstone 9 which was completed in 1hr 52 and 1hr 45.

Nick Holmes competed in the Helvellyn Triathlon. This race involves a 1-mile swim in Ullswater followed by a 38-mile bike ride which includes the infamous ‘Struggle’: a road climbing at 20% gradient in its early and later parts. The run route involves a 9 mile fell run up and down Helvellyn via Swirral Edge. Nick completed the course in 4hrs 41 minutes, winning the Vet 60 age category

While in the Lakes Tom Leather posted 2 results in separate races. The Borrowdale Fell Race is run over 17 miles with 6500 feet of climb Tome came in 17th in 4hours and 3 minutes, which was followed by the Kong Mini Marathon, in which you have to navigate yourself, Tom completed in 4 hours.

Closer to home was Race 1 in the Summer Multi Terrain Series. This was held at Royden Park over 4.7 miles. Craig Connor was 15th overall in 29:16, Paul Shannon 62nd overall 31:53. Excellent times were also posted for Kate Lightfoot, Sarah Quinlan, Mike Davies, Thomas Williams and Gerry Cummins.

Gerry Cummins gained a place in The Great North Run – Gerry completed the 13.1 miles in 2hr38.

Veteran Michael Whiteside took part in the Dee Striders Off Road Grandprix Series winning all if the races in his age category for the V70 and becoming overall V70 champion. Whiteside then went on the RAF Shawbury 10k which was held on the windy airfield, completed in a time of 48:18 making him V70 winner and closer to home Whiteside took the V70 place at Essar Guilden Sutton 10k.

Staying at Guilden Sutton, Martin Durrant took the 5th place for the Vet60, 47:13 and Joanne Powell 13th place in the Vet35 in a time of 54:28
